to all the wonderful Lakeland Art Guild Volunteers that braved last Saturday’s weather to make sure the show went on. At 6 am I found Don Stone and Ron Horn huddled in a doorway on N. Massachusetts Ave trying to stay dry. They were there to set up a tent at the Farmer’s Market and while they were willing the weather refused to cooperate. As luck would have it the rain did not quit, and the Farmer’s Market was canceled along with the opening LDDA. So, after a cup of coffee, Don, Ron and Peggy were off to make other plans for the day and we headed over to the Iowa St garage for the Car Show.

Quick Draw Plein Air

The MidFlorida Classic Car Show did go on. The cars were moved into two of the city’s parking garages and the Plein Air event went on at the Iowa St garage where the vintage cars were on display. Wayne Chunat, Sally Chunat, Bill Leggett and Pat Kirkland  already had things set up and were eagerly waiting the artists by the time we got there. And the rains continued but it didn’t stop the 6 intrepid individuals from braving the elements to paint. While not as many cars as normal, there were plenty of beautiful, interesting and fantastic cars to get on canvas. And the artists did just that. After 2 hours, their works of art were turned in to be judged by Sharon Surrency. I’m sure she had a hard time as everyone put their hearts into to their work. The winners are; 3rd Place Angela Hansen, 2nd Place Fay Kelley, 1st Place Bonnie Liss and Best of Show was Wayne Chunat. Congratulations everyone on your wins. A huge thank you to Wayne and Bill for all the work you put into making this event a success. Thank you to everyone who helped.  We will be back next year!!

Vicky Luffman

Besides being LAG’s past president, Vicky is an award-winning artist who has a studio in Bartow where she gives classes. We consider ourselves lucky to have her demonstrate her talent of painting on silk for us.

Thank You, Vicky

Several artists forgot to pick up their works from the last RPFunding and LDDA shows. If you are one of these individuals, please make arrangements to pick them up. Everyone, please remember that you need to make plans ahead of time to have your art picked up if you can’t.
